Section 01 — Positioning

The Azores are a natural laboratory in the mid-Atlantic, two hours from Lisbon.

A volcanic archipelago of nine islands: crater lakes, thermal springs, whales, emerald pastures and active geothermal cooking. A confidential, fast-growing MICE destination, it speaks to companies seeking responsible adventure, 'pioneer' storytelling and landscapes that steal every slide. The archipelago ranks among the leading destinations for sustainable tourism.

Section 02 — Key facts

The islands, the wild, the sustainable.

Three readings of the Azores: the volcanic archipelago, the raw nature, the sustainable model and vines on lava.

i.

Nine volcanic islands.

The archipelago unfolds in the middle of the ocean.

  • 9 volcanic islands 1,500 km from Lisbon; Pico, Portugal's highest point (2,351 m)
  • São Miguel, the largest, 'the green island'; Lagoa das Sete Cidades, a blue-and-green twin crater lake
  • Lisbon–Ponta Delgada flight: 2h15; mild oceanic climate, 14 to 25 °C
ii.

The raw wild.

Geothermal heat cooks, the ocean provides.

  • Furnas: a thermal valley where cozido is cooked in the volcanic fumaroles
  • More than 25 cetacean species to observe: blue whales, sperm whales, dolphins
  • Among Europe's best diving spots (visibility up to 30 m)
iii.

Sustainability & wine.

A recognised model, a vineyard on lava.

  • A leading sustainable-tourism destination (Green Destinations, QualityCoast)
  • UNESCO-listed Pico wines: vineyards on lava flows (currais)
  • Thermal springs and botanical parks, Terra Nostra in Furnas

Section 06 — FAQ

Questions about the Azores.

Two recurring questions about the destination since 2024. If yours isn't here, write to us.

01 Are the Azores suited to groups of more than 50 people?

Yes, with logistics planned ahead. São Miguel's largest hotels host groups of up to 120 people. Beyond that, we recommend booking out several properties or splitting across two islands (São Miguel + Terceira).

02 What's the best season for the Azores?

May to October: the most stable weather, warmest ocean and best whale-watching. The archipelago stays accessible all year, with a mild winter (14 to 18 °C) but more changeable weather.
